Kontoor Brands Announces SBTi-Approved Science-Based Targets
Kontoor Brands is proud to confirm its formally validated science-based targets for greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. The targets reflect Kontoor’s commitment to sustainability across the enterprise and a focus on combating climate change as an active member and stakeholder within the greater global community.
Kontoor’s near-term targets have been approved by the Science Based Targets initiative:
- Reduce absolute scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 46.2% by 2030 from a 2019 base year.
- Reduce absolute scope 3 GHG emissions from purchased goods and services, fuel & energy-related activities, upstream transportation and distribution, and downstream transportation and distribution by 46.2% within the same timeframe.
“We have committed to the Science Based Targets initiative to help create a more sustainable and just future,” said Jeff Frye, VP of Sustainability, Innovation, Product Development & Procurement, Kontoor Brands. “Using our science-based targets as a guide, we will continue accelerating our efforts to reduce the company's carbon footprint and environmental impacts. “
The Science Based Targets initiative is a partnership between CDP Global, the World Resources Institute (WRI), the Worldwide Fund for Nature (WWF), and the UN Global Compact (UNGC). It is focused on accelerating companies worldwide to halve emissions before 2030 and achieve net-zero emissions before 2050.
“This is an important milestone in our efforts to combat climate change and further solidifies Kontoor’s commitment to contributing to a healthier planet and working towards a more equitable society. Simply put, it is the right thing to do,” continued Frye.
Kontoor’s targets align with the Paris Climate Agreement to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius above pre-industriall evels.
